Marching Toward A Better Future

Marching Toward a Better Future

My Introduction to March of Dimes

In 2022 the U.S. preterm birthrate increased to 10.5% (slightly over one in 10), making the U.S. one of the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth. I knew the risk was there during my pregnancy, but I never expected to be part of that 10.5%…until I was admitted to the hospital with sudden, severe preeclampsia at 32 weeks. We accepted that our May baby was going to have a March birthday.

Before this, I had only heard of March of Dimes, but they suddenly had a massive impact on the outcome of my baby’s life and myself. First, the medical team administered an IV of magnesium sulfate to protect her brain and prevent seizures caused by my dangerously high blood pressure. Next, the team administered corticosteroid shots to help her lungs develop rapidly, preparing her for an early entrance. Both interventions were developed and funded through March of Dimes.

At 33 weeks and two days, Eisley made her grand entrance at 3lbs 6oz. She was tiny but healthy – her cry let us know the steroid shots had done their job! The next 28 days were a fever dream of NICU visits. Here, we found that March of Dimes funded resources, initiatives, and research that would guide us through the unknown. During a NICU visit, I saw a flyer for the 2022 March for Babies and felt inspired – but our experience was still too fresh. I promised myself that we would be a part of the event next year.

Rallying the Community

Fast forward to May 2023 – Eisley is a happy, healthy one-year-old, and Eisley’s Team has just finished our first March for Babies 5k. We weren’t alone, as I am incredibly fortunate to have a community in Datatelligent. When I decided we were ready to participate, my leadership and coworkers stepped up with an astounding show of support, encouragement, and donations. This action reaffirmed what I already knew about Datatelligent – we truly live our company purposeto use data to make our communities better – as we tripled our original fundraising goal. Our CEO Larry and his family joined us on our walk. Eisley’s Team raised over $1,300 to help fund research and initiatives to create positive outcomes and equitable healthcare for mothers and babies!

What I Learned and What’s Next

Participating in our first March for Babies was a bittersweet experience. While it was inspiring and fun to come together and support those who will come after us, it was also disheartening to know there will be others. Until we end preventable maternal health risks, deaths, and preterm births, the need for advocacy and awareness remains. I hope that Eisley’s Team will grow even bigger in 2024 and that you’ll join us in supporting March of Dimes!

Drawing upon its extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, Datatelligent’s team will build a Unified Data Platform to collect, clean, and organize data from sources throughout the Feeding Westchester organization, providing staff with timely and accurate data — efficiently and easier than their current approach.

Feeding Westchester, based in Elmsford, New York, is Westchester County’s largest nonprofit hunger-relief organization, and in 2020, provided more than 18 million meals to people in need. It does an exemplary job serving its community and galvanizing volunteers and donors, and its leadership team recognized that staff could further enhance operations and outreach with a more robust, turnkey solution to collect, analyze and report data. Consequently, Datatelligent has been engaged to reimagine Feeding Westchester’s data analytics structure and build a platform using Snowflake to standardize data collection and reporting, integrate disparate information, create highly visual reports, and enhance collaboration throughout the organization.

Using Datatelligent’s Data Analytics as a Service (DAaaS) offering, Datatelligent staff are building a solution to collect, track and report data as it relates to food donations and distributions, fundraising, and volunteer activities. The platform will provide Feeding Westchester with up-to-date, easy to interpret data, speeding access to accurate information, decreasing staff time spent compiling reports, and improving timely decision-making efforts.

Additionally, the solution will tap into Datatelligent’s expert knowledge of Snowflake’s data cloud to centralize data storage which will allow Feeding Westchester staff to create highly visual reports enhancing understanding of disparate information.

“We are thrilled to be working with an organization that is doing so much good in its community, especially as the ongoing effects of the Covid pandemic continue to create challenges and need. Industry Leading Data Analytics Firm Engaged to Drive Educational Improvements

GLEN ELLYN, Ill., April 15, 2021 — Further cementing itself as a proven resource for the higher education community, Datatelligent, LLC (www.datatelligent.ai) has been selected by Cowley College to work with its faculty and administrators to build a data analytics platform that will allow them to access timely, previously disconnected information — all with the goal of improving the educational experience of their nearly 4,000 students. Datatelligent has extensive experience partnering with colleges and universities to access data to navigate the Covid landscape more successfully and meet the changing and challenging needs of current and prospective students, faculty, and administrators.

Based in Arkansas City, Kansas, Cowley College is a community college spanning five campuses, and has recently moved to a more intrusive advising model that uses data to support student success. Educators and administrators realized the College collected the right information but was lacking the necessary tools to create a full understanding from multiple, disconnected data sources. That is where Datatelligent comes in; their team has a depth of experience and the ability to develop a customized data platform to track metrics tied to student engagement and performance with the goal of increasing retention and student satisfaction.

“Providing our students with the support they need to be successful has always been our goal, and the additional complications of COVID-19 placed a spotlight on our need to be able to quickly identify and respond to the challenges they are facing. Using Datatelligent’s Data Analytics as a Service (DAaaS) solution, Datatelligent staff are working with Cowley College to build a student retention dashboard. This solution will allow advisors and enrollment staff to quickly identify struggling students and reach out to ensure they stay engaged and successful. Additionally, Datatelligent is working to develop a budget forecasting dashboard, which will allow Cowley’s CFO and her team to develop “what if” scenarios related to their budget based on variations in student and government revenues.
“Teaching in the Covid environment is challenging for colleges and universities throughout the nation, especially as services to students have shifted to an online environment. But it’s also an opportunity for innovation,” said Larry Blackburn, Chief Data Transformation Officer, Datatelligent. “We are thrilled to be working with Cowley College because this project, while challenging, also allows us to make an immediate impact in the student and employee experience.”

Datatelligent Announces Partnership with Dominican University

Chicagoland Data Analytics Firm Mines Covid-19 Data to Assist in Reopening Strategy for Fall Semester and Beyond

GLEN ELLYN, Ill., July 12, 2020 — Datatelligent (www.dataintelligent.ai) and Dominican University, based in River Forest, Illinois, announced that they have been working together to use Covid-19 case information and other relevant local market data to assist university staff as they create a safe back-to-school plan for students, educators and administrators. Using Datatelligent’s data analytics as a service solution, university staff will have access to the most current, geo-coded Covid-19 information including localized hotspot data and other time-sensitive content overlaid with their student information.

Datatelligent’s platform enables Dominican staff to make data-driven decisions as they assess and evaluate educational options for prospective, incoming and returning students as well as educators and support staff. By understanding the localized impact on their students based on where they live, Dominican is creating specialized programs and communication plans to fit the needs of their students.

“We are thrilled that our solution will provide our partners at Dominican University with timely and essential information to guide their back-to-school strategy,” said Rob Wellen, Chief Growth Officer, Datatelligent. “Data-driven insights are critical components for any industry as we begin to open our doors to in-person activity, but it is essential for universities and colleges as they begin bringing students back to campus.”

Datatelligent’s data analytics solution overlays localized business data with Covid-19 case and student information, including severity/hotspot data. This allows institutions to identify issues and create specific, data-driven plans to address their unique needs; there is no one-size-fits-all recommendation due to the rapid changes in Covid-19 outbreaks and the unique demographics of a particular institution.

Beyond the immediate application of recovery analytics data for Fall 2020 planning purposes, which include Dominican’s response to housing and athletics questions, strategies for commuter versus on-campus students and staff’s work-from-home options, Datatelligent’s platform will help the university navigate issues as they relate to planning for 2021 and beyond. Additionally, Domincan will utilize Datatelligent’s platform to assess and advance other key initiatives for the university, including fundraising and alumni relations.

“The health and wellness of our students, faculty and all Dominican University staff is critical, and we believe access to timely, and highly customized data is essential as we craft our Fall 2020 plans and beyond,” said Jill Albin-Hill, Vice President of Technology and Operations, Dominican University. “Working with Datatelligent will enable our strategic team to craft and adjust our back-to-campus activities with confidence and help us advance our data-informed organizational goals.  Their partnership approach will help us with several other data analytics needs across the university.”
